10 Artists to Look Out For in 2014 (PART 1)

If you could tell already, I spend a lot of my free time obsessing over music. Recently I have found some new artists that don’t seem to be getting the recognition they deserve. Since there are so many I decided to divide up this post into two to make it not as overwhelming!

1) London Grammar

London Grammar are a three piece alternative band from London. I would describe there sound as ambient with haunting vocals from the lead singer Hannah Reid. Her voice reminds me of a mixture of Florence Welch, Lana Del Rey and Birdy. It’s extremely unique which is what attracted me to this band in the first place. The recently played at SXSW and finishing up their US tour within the next week.

2) Iggy Azalea

Iggy Azalea is an Hip/Hop, Rap artist from Australia. Her raps are really upbeat and unique, drawing from personal experience. She moved to the US in 2010 and by 2011 released her mixtape Ignorant Art. After waiting 3 years to release a debut album it is finally coming out April 21st. I can’t find another artist that really reminds me of Iggy, she’s that original in my eyes. She recently performed at the MTVu Woodie Awards and her US tour starts in Boston on April 23rd.

3) the 1975

Words cannot describe my love for the 1975. There will most definitely be a post about them after I see them live. They are absolutely my favorite band at the moment and possibly of all time. The four piece band hails from outside of Manchester. They’ve been a band for 10 years and last September released their debut album. I can’t find a genre for their sound because they run off of the idea of a “lack of identity.”  They recently played at the MTVu Woodie Awards, are lined up to play Coachella, Reading & Leeds, and are embarking on their first headlining US tour starting April 14th.

4) Lewis Watson

Lewis Watson is singer/songwriter from Oxford, England. He reminds me of  Ed Sheeran, with his soft vocals and heartfelt lyrics. He has released four EP’s, all a mixture of covers and originals, and the latest EP with 3 duets on it. This year is releasing his debut album. He has not toured the US, but I am hoping for a tour sometime this fall.

5) Clean Bandit

Clean Bandit is a four piece band from Cambridge. They started out as a string quartet at the University of Cambridge, and James Patterson, a band member, began to remix the quartets recordings. This led to the creation of Clean Bandit. They have released their first single “Rather Be” (song of the summer 2014) and plan on releasing a debut album May 14th. They haven’t had a full US tour yet, but they do have 2 dates planned for Brooklyn and LA.

The next post will be up next week!

xx
